CGD is a nutritionally complete powdered diet designed to be the sole food source for crested geckos. It contains fruit, insect protein, vitamins, minerals, and calcium with D3. Mix 1 part powder to 2 parts water into a ketchup-like consistency, serve in a shallow dish, and discard after 24 to 36 hours.

- Always use dechlorinated or bottled water. Tap water is fine in most municipalities but avoid heavily chlorinated supplies.
- Mix fresh each feeding. Pre-mixed CGD kept in the fridge degrades within 48 hours and separates.
- Use a flat, shallow dish, magnetic ledge cups are popular because geckos forage upside-down.
- Replace the dish after 24 to 36 hours even if untouched. Old CGD breeds yeast and fruit flies.
- Rotate at least two brands over the animal's life. Each brand balances ingredients differently and rotation hedges against formulation changes.
