| Life stage | CGD frequency | Insect frequency | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hatchling (under 3 g) | Fresh daily | Optional, 1 to 2 pinheads 1×/week | Expect about 0.5 to 1.5 g a month. |
| Juvenile (3 to 15 g) | Fresh daily or every other day | 3 to 5 feeders 1 to 2×/week | Growth phase, never ration CGD. Expect about 1 to 4 g a month. |
| Sub-adult (15 to 35 g) | 3 to 4×/week | 4 to 6 feeders 1×/week | Expect about 1 to 4 g a month, levelling off near adult size. |
| Adult (35 g+) | 3×/week | 4 to 6 feeders 1×/2 weeks (optional) | Overfeeding adults causes obesity and fatty liver. |
| Breeding female | 3 to 4×/week + extra calcium | 6 to 8 feeders 1 to 2×/week | Protein and calcium demand spikes during laying season. |

- Adults that gorge on CGD every night get fat, develop fatty liver disease, and fail to breed. Three to four feedings per week is enough for a non-breeder.
- Never fast a hatchling "to build appetite." Missed meals at this stage compound, a hatchling that skips 3 meals has lost a meaningful fraction of its body weight.
