# Quarantine new arrivals

If you have an existing collection, quarantine every new arrival for a minimum of 30 days, 90 days is better. Quarantine means a separate room if possible, different tools, and last-in-the-day husbandry order so you never carry pathogens back.

- Keep the quarantine enclosure on paper towel. Easier to spot parasite eggs and monitor stool.
- Run a fecal float at the beginning and the end of the quarantine period. Crypto shedding is intermittent, one clear test is not proof.
- Weigh weekly. A new arrival that drops more than 10% during quarantine should not be introduced to your collection even after the period ends.
- Wash hands, change shirts, and spray tools with a reptile-safe disinfectant (F10SC) between enclosures.
