Safe handling technique, crested gecko care
Safe handling technique, part of the Geck Inspect crested gecko care guide.
Level: beginner. Part of: Handling.
- "Hand-walking": let the gecko walk from one palm to the other. Never grab, squeeze, or restrain.
- Keep sessions short, 5 to 15 minutes is plenty. Stop earlier if the gecko freezes, gapes, or sits and pants.
- Handle low over a soft surface (bed, couch) so a jump does not result in a fall from height.
- Never pick up by the tail. Crested gecko tails are autotomous and will drop at the lightest pull.
- Wash hands before and after. After insects or raw meat, always wash before reaching into the enclosure.
